Pollsters, pundits and the voting public seem to agree on at least one thing about this year's presidential race--among college students from coast to coast, there is something powerfully appealing about Sen. Barack Obama. Even in Utah, traditionally the reddest of the red states, the 2008 Democratic nominee has captured the imagination and unleashed the collective energy of this particular demographic in a way not seen since Eugene McCarthy's failed 1968 bid for the White House.

A new report has ranked the U among the nation's best colleges. The 2009 edition of America's Best Colleges, a magazine published by U.S. News & World Report, which hit newsstands Monday, ranked the U 127th in the country, tied with the University of San Francisco and the New Jersey Institute of Technology-two schools with student populations less than half the size of the U's.

In the 2009 Edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," Weber State University ranked as the 16th best public university for master's degrees in the west. WSU was one out of four universities ranked in Utah this year. Out of all universities and private institutions in the west, WSU ranks 53rd among master's degree programs.

A plane crash in Guatemala killed 11 people on Sunday, including Weber State University student Cody Odekirk.
Odekirk, 19, was on a humanitarian mission with Focus Services to help build a classroom.
For those who knew Odekirk, the news came as a shock.
Gentry Phillips, a WSU psychology sophomore and friend of Odekirk, said she found out via text message.
